I have read many articles and books about how much credit cards are to blame for people being in debt over their heads. The question is who is actually to blame: The Banks or The Consumer. If you asked 100 people the answer would be split right down the middle give or take a percent or two either way. Some will say banks are to blame since they send out hundreds of applications to people all the time. They constantly receive offers in the mail or on TV or the internet. I know personally I receive about 2 or 3 offers a week. Not as many as in years past, but still quite a few. I cannot disagree with those who blame banks since they are the ones' who approve the loans. Other will say it is the consumer who is to blame since no one is forcing them to have a credit card or make purchases. Nowadays people spend all they earn and then some more on top of that with credit cards. I once again cannot disagree since it is the consumer who is applying for new credit and then making purchases.
As you can see credit debt is a dilemma. You have to have some type of credit card if you want to travel since most airlines, hotels and car rentals require a Visa or MasterCard to secure reservation or purchase. Today with banks offer Visa and MasterCard accounts tied to your bank account so you don't really have to have an actual credit card to make a reservation. However, a lot of people do not like to give out credit card number tied to bank account (I am One) due to identity theft. The Credit Card Dilemma comes down to personal choice. You can have a lot of credit card debt or none. Either choice is not good or bad, but a personal choice.
In the end both parties will discover that both share the blame and need to hold themselves accountable for their part. It is always easier to blame someone or something else than ourselves. As the saying goes, "if you look in the mirror you will see part of the problem." Knowledge will increase your Debt Strength.
